Bihu Dance is a vibrant folk dance from Assam that is generally performed during Bihu festival which celebrates the Assamese New Year and the arrival of spring. Bihu has three parts – Rongali Bihu (celebrating the arrival of spring), Bhogali Bihu (celebrating the harvest), and Kati Bihu (a quieter, more devotional time). Performance— Bihu dance is generally performed in groups and it is known for it’s synchronized movements. Both men and women participate in dance but their styles are slightly different. Bihu contains fast-paced, rhythmic movements along with quick footwork and hand- clapping. In Bihu dance, male dancers enter first and form lines and when female dancers enter, they break lines and try to mingle with them.
